Maui, Hawaii is known for its breathtaking natural beauty, diverse culture, and laid-back atmosphere. With so much to see and do on this paradise island, it can be overwhelming to plan your itinerary. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of five must-do activities inspired by our Black Sands Beaches candle, which captures the essence of Maui’s volcanic landscapes and ocean breezes. 


  • Visit the Black Sand Beaches
  • Maui is home to several stunning black sand beaches, including Waianapanapa State Park and Honokalani Beach. These beaches get their distinctive color from the volcanic rocks that have been eroded over time, and they provide a stark contrast to the bright blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. Take a dip in the refreshing waters, explore the nearby caves and lava tubes, or simply relax on the beach and take in the striking scenery.

  • Explore Haleakalā National Park
  • Haleakalā National Park is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Maui. The park spans over 33,000 acres and encompasses a range of ecosystems, from the volcanic summit of Haleakalā to the lush rainforests of Kīpahulu. Hike along the trails to experience the unique flora and fauna of the park, including the endemic silversword plant, and catch a glimpse of the stunning sunrise or sunset from the summit.

  • For a bird's eye view of Maui's diverse landscapes, take a helicopter tour. From above, you can witness the dramatic contrasts of the island's volcanic peaks, lush valleys, and pristine beaches. Many tours include a flight over the Hāna Highway, which winds through the rugged coastline and lush rainforests of Maui's eastern shore. 


    1. Take a Road Trip on the Hana Highway 

    The Hana Highway is a scenic drive that takes you through some of the most picturesque landscapes in Maui. The road  is 64 miles long and features over 600 curves and 59 bridges. Along the way, you’ll pass by waterfalls, bamboo forests, and stunning coastal views. Make sure to take your time and stop at the various lookout points and beaches along the way.

    Molokini Crater is a partially submerged volcanic crater that is home to an abundance of marine life. Take a snorkeling trip to this unique destination and explore the vibrant coral reefs and schools of tropical fish. You may even spot some sea turtles or dolphins during your excursion.
