10 Products Made of Hemp

10 Products Made of Hemp

So what is "Hemp"?

Hemp is a plant grown in the southern hemisphere that is known for its fiber or its “edible seeds”. Hemp seeds have a mild, nutty flavor and can produce a variety of food products such as hemp oil, hemp cheese and milk! They are rich in healthy fats including omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids which are both known for improving heart health, reducing cholesterol, blood pressure and triglycerides. Crazy, right?! That’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this super plant, here are TEN products you can make with hemp!

1. Rope & Fabrics

Who doesn’t know about hemp rope? People, including George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, have been growing hemp to use in rope-making for many generations. Because all thickness of hemp rope can be made, the possibilities are endless.

2. Soap

Hemp is a super-fatty substance, therefore excellent in the use of making the ultimate quality soaps!

3. Paper

Because hemp is fast growing and so renewable, it’s actually much more environmentally friendly to make paper with hemp instead of wood, which is the age-old ingredient. Maybe now we can hold on to more of our forests.

4. Fuel

Anything that can be processed into oil can be used to make fuel. The great thing about hemp is its renewability, making it much more eco-friendly and cost effective.

5. Nutritional Protein

Hemp seeds are cram-packed with protein and lots of other great nutrients and protein powder manufacturers have taken note! Will hemp replace milk for protein? Milk does seem like it would be faster to cycle through than hemp crops, but hey, it’s an option if we run out of cows and goats!

6. Renewable Home Building Materials

Did you know that hemp can be made into “hempcrete”? Hempcrete is an amazing insulator and super durable. What a great new way for people to continue working toward using sustainable materials to build homes.

7. Sunscreen

Over the last few years, lotion manufacturers are starting to discover how useful hemp is in sunscreen. Although it doesn’t block the sun, it’s a great base for zinc oxide and fabulous for the skin!

8. Sports Cars

The first hemp car was called the “Renew”, where the body was made entirely out of hemp mixed with hard resins. Why not, right? At least you could honestly call it a hemp car.

9. Beer

Microbreweries around the world are now introducing hemp beer into their product line-ups due to the fact that hemp and hops are essentially cousins! It adds a nice flavor to the beer and who knows, maybe it has some added benefits.

10. Shoes

Nike has proven time and time again that they really know how to tease their fans with marketing campaigns that generate real hype and then follow up by satisfying their desires. So amongst all these, hemp couldn’t be missing. That’s why this December it launched a new release that sold out in literally just a few minutes: The Air Force 1 for Stüssy.
